Title:I Am Lena!
Rating:PG
Type:Poem
Genre:Angst/Gothic
Disclaimer: This poem is about Lena as she appears in my story, ‘A Future, Inside.’ It’s hard to explain, but in many respects this poem is another one of Lena’s dreams, only this one is a dream that didn’t make it into the story, as it didn’t quite work in that format. It’s interesting, because in this poem, Lena accepts, to some extent, that her life has changed, and that she must move on. But in the story, she doesn’t quite get that far until… well, let’s just say that it doesn’t happen for a very long time!
So, I guess, if you read between the lines, you might be able to see a sneak preview of future chapters! (There’s a lot of symbolism in there!) ^_^
Also, in this poem, Lena confronts for the first time the same prejudice that her father warned her about in the first chapter of my story!
As always, please remember that this is a work of fiction, and is not intended in any way to be an overtly accurate representation of Yulia or Lena!
I hear, the sound, of children laughing,
People that, I once, knew and loved,
I hear, the sound, of children clapping,
A chorus, of hands, I used to touch.
I hear, the sound, of children playing,
All the games, that I, used to know,
I hear, the children, they are saying,
Where did, our friend, Lena go?
I am here! Why, can’t you see me?
I am screaming, why, don’t you hear?
I’m so close, why, can’t you feel me?
I am reaching, I, need you near!
I hear, the sound, of wings, flapping,
A Golden Eagle, is soaring, through the sky,
I hear, the gasps, of people watching,
As the Eagle, flies, way up high.
I hear it now, a girl, she is weeping,
No one seems, to notice, or to care,
I hear her voice, as, she starts screaming,
Not one person, stops, to even stare.
I am Lena! Why, can’t you see me?
I am screaming, why, don’t you hear?
I am so close, why, won’t you feel me?
I am reaching, why, aren’t you near?
I feel it now, this girl, she is falling,
No on dares, to try, and save the child,
She hits the ground, her head, it is bleeding,
And now inside, my heart, it’s beat so wild.
As she whimpers, in pain, upon the ground,
I feel a knife, of fire, pierce my heart,
She cries for help, from, those around,
No one does, and it, tears me apart.
I am Lena! Why, can’t you see me?
I am screaming, why, don’t you hear?
I am so close, why, won’t you feel me?
I am reaching, why, aren’t you near?
I feel her pain, deep, inside myself,
It hurts so much, I clench, my teeth,
I feel her torment, her own, private hell,
I sense tremors, within, the ground beneath.
I feel the air, it changes, it’s complexion,
Hard to breathe, I’m losing, everything,
I feel her heart, cave in, with cold inflexion,
I’m on my knees, such pain, from within.
I am Lena! Why, can’t you see me?
I am screaming, why, don’t you hear?
I am so close, why, can’t you feel me?
I am reaching, why, aren’t you near?
As she turns, her gaze, towards my iris,
I feel my soul, start, to fade away,
Subjected to, severe, emotional violence,
This child and I, are, in fact the same.
I see her face, so very, innocent,
Bright red hair, like, a chariots fire,
There I lie, upon, the dirty pavement,
I am her, and she, indeed is I.
I am Lena! Why, won’t you see me?
I am screaming, why, don’t you hear?
I am so close, why, can’t you feel me?
I am reaching, why, aren’t you near?
And now at last, our hands, they link together,
Her wound is healed, as now, we are one,
And as we drift, and float, into the ether,
I realize now, that we, do not belong.
Now I see, that this, is not my world,
A succubus, is now, what I’ve become,
We are ghosts, me, and this girl,
Invisible, indeed, to everyone.
I am Lena! But you, cannot see me,
I am screaming, but you, will not hear,
I am so close, but you, do not feel me,
I am reaching, but you, are never near.
