Chapter 2:
Lena stodd in front of her mirror, trying in vain to calm her very un-tamed, wild red locks. She gritted her teeth and squinted her eyes as she tried to pass her comb through her hair once more. Then, suddenly, *SNAP!!*. Lena didn't move. She slowly opened her eyes and pulled her hand out from behind her head. Just as she had suspected, she broke another comb.
"SHIT!" She exclaimed, her face turning completely red. She paused and looked in the mirror at her flushed cheeks. 'What the hell am I being embarassed for, there's no one in here but me!?' She thought to herself. She mentally smacked herself and brought her hands back behind her head to remove the ruined comb from her thick hair. Once every part of the comb had been removed, she went back to work on her hair with a brand new brush. She stopped, giving up, and sat back on her bed, taking a deep breath.
"I am making way too much out of this one little night out." She sighed, falling back completely onto her soft quilt.
*AT THE CLUB: 10.30*
Yulia pulled her collar up around her frozen cheeks and took a long drag from her ciggarette. With one hand, she removed the ciggarette from her lips, keeping the other clenched to the open space at the end of her collar, closing it up so that the cold air couldn't get to her neck or cheeks. White smoke, enhanced in color by the freezing night air, escaped her lightly parted lips. Her eyes searched the sidewalk for this 'Lena' girl she was supposed to meet tonight. 'About your height, maybe a little tiny bit taller, grey eyes, and red hair.' She recited in her mind Sasha's description of the girl. 'Red hair...' she repeated in her mind. 'Eh, shouldn't be hard to spot.' She thought with a shrug.
"Something on you're mind?" Sasha asked from the wall she was leaning on, disrupting Yulia's thoughts.
"Yeah, when your friend's gonna get here, it's cold as hell and I'd like to go inside." Yulia said, bringing her ciggarette back up to her mouth for another long puff.
"Speak of the devil!" Sasha exclaimed. Yulia raised an eyebrow at her friend.
"Huh?" She asked, confused at her friends choice of words. Sasha pointed straight ahead of her.
"Lena! Lena, over here!" She called out. Yulia turned completely to face the direction to which her friend was pointing to. 'Red hair...' Yulia said in her mind, 'Yep, deffinitley *red* hair.'
"Sasha!" Lena yelled back. She ran to catch up with Sasha and greet her and the girl she was to meet.
"Lena, it's been so long! You look great!" Sasha said excitedly, examening Lena who she hadn't seen in years, but spoke to on the phone.
"Thanks," Lena replied, blushing a little at her friends very kind remark, "You look awesome too!"
"Your hair! It's so...so...RED!"
"I guess it got brighter of the years!"
Yulia watched the two from where she was standing, her eyes focusing on Lena's red hair. She dropped her ciggarette to the floor and stomped it before walking over to the pair who were deep in conversation about the past.
"Hate to break up your guys' little reunoin but I'm quite cold and it's quite lonely standing over there all by myself." Yulia said, standing inbetween Sasha and Lena.
"You must be Lena," Yulia said, turning and reaching for Lena's hand, "Sash told me you were coming, it's very nice to meet you."
Lena smiled shyly and took the shorter girls hand, "Nice to meet you...Yulia, right?" Lena joked.
"Ah yes, always forget us little people at the shallower end of the gene pool, figures." Yulia snorted, quickley covering up her sarcasm with a cheeky smile. Lena giggled at Yulia's comment.
"Shall we?" Sasha asked, motioning the group to the club entrance. Suddenly, Yulia stopped.
"Wait, before we get in, what's everyones sexuality? Cause once I get started drinking, who know's what I'll do." She announced. Sasha glared at Yulia. Yulia grinned back at her as if to say, 'Like I wouldn't bring it up?'. Lena blushed, never expecting her to be so blunt about it.
"I know I'm straight, Yul." Sasha answered through clenched teeth. Yulia was going to get it at school on Monday. Lena didn't reply.
"Lena?" Yulia asked, "Is there anything you'd like to tell the class?"
Sasha couldn't help but snicker; Lena giggled lightly from behind her mass of red hair.
"I...I--I'm not sure..." Lena stuttered.
"Good enough, let's go party!" Yulia exclaimed, throwing her hands in the air. Lena stood very confused. Was this all acctually happening? Lena felt a small hand wrap around her wrist, tugging her forward.
"Are you coming inside or are you just gonna stand out here and pretend?" Yulia asked, hastily. Before Lena could reply, Yulia had dragged her to the entrance to the club.
"Come ooooon!" She whined. Lena smiled and stumbled forward after Yulia and Sasha.
*INSIDE THE CLUB*
Sasha found an empty booth at the back corner of the club where the three of them could sit. Lena sat in the middle and Yulia and Sasha sat to either side of her. Yulia could see she had made Lena un-easy with what she had said before entering the club. She didn't mean to upset anyone, well, except Sasha, and it made her feel bad. She forwned at her own stupidity. 'You wouldn't wan't someone going off asking you your sexuality when you first realised it, why would you do it someone else? Idiot...' She scorned herself in her mind. She shook her head, trying to shake out her thoughts, and returned to paying attention to the conversation Sasha and Lena were having.
"So, how do you take your vodka, Lena?" Yulia asked, disrupting whatever she and Sasha were talking about. Lena paused to think.
"Straight up, chase it with a Coke." She answered.
"Whatdya know, I take mine the same way!" Yulia announced. Sasha looked at her awkwardly, knowing she was lieing.
"But, Yu-"
"How do you take yours, Sasha?" Yulia jumped in, interrupting her friend before she could say anymore. Sasha was quite confused.
"Uh...I'll take the same thing..." She replied. Suddenly it hit her! She flashed Yulia a smug grin. She looked back and forth between Yulia an Lena and her smile grew wider.
"All right then, I'll be right back!" Yulia said, standing up to head to the bar.
"No, no, no, I'll go get our drinks!" Sasha nearly yelped, jumping up from her own seat and pushing Yulia back. Yulia sat back, startled.
"Uh, ok..." Yulia stuttered. Then Sasha skipped off happily to the bar leaving Lena and Yulia in awkward silence.
"So..." Lena began, trying to strike up conversation.
"Listen, Lena, I'm really sorry about what I said outside the club. I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable, I just wanted to lighten the mood, you know, joke around? I mean, I know I wouldn't have wanted anyone saying stuff like that around me when everything first hit me, and believe me it hit me." Yulia said, looking down at the table top. Lena didn't say anything and Yulia looked up at her, afraid of what she might see. To her surprise Lena looked somewhat more relaxed.
"Are you...ok?" Yulia asked.
"Yeah, I'm fine, it's just that, well, I'm not really sure about who I am right now. I guess I'm relieved to have someone to talk to about it." Lena said, nervously fidgeting with her fingers and the buttons on her shirt.
"You can talk to me about anything, I'll listen." Yulia said softly. Lena smiled at Yulia's kindness and openess to her. 'Those eyes, I can't get enough of those eyes.' Lena thought to herself. Lena moved closer to Yulia in the booth.
"Ok, well, see lately-"
"YULIA HELP ME OUT!!" Sasha yelled, stumbling forward with a tray of drinks.
"Damnit." Yulia cursed under her breath. She looked at Lena as if to say 'I'm sorry' and got up to help Sasha. Sasha meerly handed Yulia the entire tray and took her seat next to Lena. Yulia grummbled and carried the tray back. She set the tray down on the table and handed everyone their respective drinks. She took her seat next to Lena once more and lifted her glass up for a toast.
"All right girls, to a good night!" Sasha said, raising her glass after Yulia. Lena raised hers with the two other girls' and before she knew it, everyone's glass was empty. Yulia cleared her glass and quickley took a drink of her Coke. She shook her head wildley after the shock had passed and grinned like a Hyena. She felt as though every nerve in her body dissolved away. Lena let her head drop back to the back of the seat. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath, bringing her head back up to look at the two other girls next to her and smiling.

"In our case vodka and coke." Sasha intterupted.
"I'm going for another round, anyone wanna join?" Lena asked, slipping under the table and appearing back on the other side.
"Yeah, count me in, what about you?" Sasha asked Yulia.
"Try me." Yulia replied.
"Ok then, I'll be right back." Lena said, turning and walking to the bar to pick up another round of vodka for her and her friends.
"So, whadya think?" Sasha asked once Lena was out of ear-shot.
"You were right, I like her." Yulia answered with a sly grin.
"Well I'm glad you're happy, you almost ruined it for me. You just HAD to bring our little conversation up, didn't you." Sasha said bitterly.
"Hey, hey, hey, calm yourself, I didn't bring up our little 'conversation', I just asked her what her sexuality was!" Yulia said in defense.
"Same differance." Sasha huffed, crossing her arms over her chest.
"I freaked her out anyways, it's not like we had the greatest conversation once you left."
"Completely defeating the purpose of why I left in the first place. I would have glaly let you pay and get the drinks, thank you very much."
Yulia rolled her eyes at her friend. "You don't need to tell me, like you'd pay for anything."
"Hey, I've paid before!" Sasha said aversely.
"Yeah right, name one time I haven't paid for you!"
Sasha was deep in thought when Lena returned from the bar with 3 tall glasses of vodka. She placed the drinks and was about to scurry under the table again, but Yulia jumped out of her seat, allowing Lena to get to her seat from there.
"So, what happened while I was gone?" Lena asked, grabbing her drink from the center.
"Oh nothing, Sasha and I were just discussing her convenient inability to have cash everytime I happen to be around." Yulia explained. Lena giggled and sat back in her seat.
"I guess nothing's really changed, eh Sasha?" Lena remarked, raising an eyebrow.
"Geez, no need to gang up on me, guys!" Sasha whined. Lena and Yulia both laughed at Sasha who was blushing in embarassment.
*AN HOUR LATER*
Empty glasses littered the top of the small booth the three girls were sitting at. All three of them sat squirming in their seats, laughing and giggling uncontrolably. You could smell the vodka radiating from where they were seated. Yulia fell to the side of the booth so her head was hanging off the seat, laughing like a mad woman. Lena looked up from the table top where she was just shoving her face into and looked for Yulia. She looked down and noticed Yulia's legs sprawled across her knees. Leaning over to where Yulia *was* seated, she could clearly see Yulia looking as though she was having a seizure from laughing so hard. She reached over, grabbed Yulia by the collar, and pulled her up so she was siiting up again. Yulia tried to stay up by herself, but the alchohol and the fact that she was sitting in Lena's lap didn't help. She reached out and wrapped her arms around Lena's neck, hold onto her for dear life. Lena instincivley wrapped her arms around Yulia's waist to keep her new found friend from falling back down. 'I could get used to this.' Lena thought and smiled at Yulia who was leaning her head against her shoulder.
Sasha groaned and placed her hand over her stomach. "This booth, we've been sitting in this booth for way too long. I think my ass is asleep."
"Let's get out of it then. There's a huge dance floor over there that's just beconing us. Can you hear it? It's saying 'Come dance on meeee!!!'." Yulia said, cupping her hand around her ear like she was listening to the dance floor talking to her.
"Then let's go dance!" Lena said excitedly. They all agreed and headed out to the crowded dance floor. The DJ began spinning some heavy bassed dance techno, euro-pop and the crowd went wild. The girls got so lost in the music that before she knew it, Lena had pulled Yulia to her and was dancing with her! It wasn't like Yulia was complaining, she was rather enjoying herself. Yulia wrapped her arms around Lena's neck and Lena leaned forward so they were forehead to forehead. Her head was spinning with emotion, thoughts, worries, confusion. But it didn't matter. It was those eyes. They were infectious. She coun't get enough of them and this little girl. 'Little woman.' She corrected herself. 'I've known her for an hour but I feel like I've known her forever! She's amazing; I've never felt this comfortable around anyone!'
Yulia smiled at Lena. She couldn't put into words how she felt. Extatic? Happy? Excited? Angry? In love? None of them came close. She's had crushes, but this was far differant. This was no crush. This was new, something she'd never felt before. She felt sick, but in a good way. She felt so calm around this girl. She felt like she could be herself and not hold back. Lena had opened a flood gate of emotions for Yulia, emotions she'd never felt before in her life and never intended on feeling. The next thing she felt, though, left her in utter shock.
Lena leaned forward slowly until her lips met Yulia's. Yulia was dumbfounded but gladly accepted the kiss. She never saw this coming! Sure, maybe some friendly drunken flirting but not the acctual thing, Lena already told her the position she was in. 'Don't get your hopes up, Volk, I could just be the alchohol.' She thought to herself.
Lena finally shot back to reality. She opened her eyes and realised what she was doing. Suddenyl she jerked back and placed her hand on her forehead. 'Oh God, what did I do?' She questioned herself.
"No." She said aloud.
"No?" Yulia asked.
"This...this-it's too much, no. I-I can't take it, it's too much." She spit out. Yulia looked into her eyes and saw everything she had gone through. Confusion, despair, anger, hope, fear. She had felt it all. She knew what Lena was feeling.
"I understand." Yulia said plainly.
"You do?" Lena asked.
"Completely. You wanna get outa here?" Yulia asked. Lena nodded as a simple reply. Yulia reached out and grabbed Sasha by the shoulder to get her attention.
"Hey, Sash, we're gonna blow this place," Yulia began.
"All right, call me tomorrow then." Sasha replied. Yulia took Lena's hand and together, hand-in-hand, they left the club.
